Lyon, 9 June 2009
Since its return to the South-African market in April 2008, Irisbus Iveco has made great strides in this coveted zone in the lead-up to the 2010 Football World Cup.
Irisbus Iveco is now Number 2 in the local market for public transportation vehicles with a GVW of more than 8.5 tonnes. In the 12-month period ending March 2009, this corresponded to 315 units and a market share of 22%.
The next 270 units will be delivered before the end of the year.
Produced by Irisbus Iveco’s plant in Barcelona, Spain, specialised in the production of coach and bus chassis, the EuroRider is fitted with a right-hand drive for South Africa, in a 12 m two-axle version equipped with a Cursor 8 engine (40 units) and a 13.80 m three-axle version equipped with a Cursor 10 engine (545 units).
These chassis are bodied locally by Dubigeon, which belongs to the transport company Putco Limited (Public Utility Transport Corporation), a partner of Irisbus Iveco. Putco is the largest South-African transport company and owns 1800 coaches operating on intercity lines of the country’s main economic region, around Johannesburg and Pretoria.
After-sales service for these vehicles will be handled by Iveco South Africa’s well-developed network which covers 24 countries in southern and central Africa.
