On the occasion of the European Mobility Exhibition in Paris, the Public Transport Innovation Awards were presented on Tuesday, June 8, honouring 3 categories: ‘Energy and Environment’, ‘Accessibility, Fittings, Facilities and Design’ and ‘Intelligent Transport Systems’.
Held under the auspices of the French Ministry for Sustainable Development in partnership with Veolia Transport and Transport Public magazine, the awards honoured the best innovations by industrial and service companies present at the Exhibition.
Nominated within the "Energy-Environment" category, Iveco France has been awarded for its new ranges of diesel-electric hybrid city buses, i.e. Irisbus Citelis and HeuliezBus Access'Bus GX 327 and 427, on display in world-wide avant-premiere at the exhibition. This technology of the future allows reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 25 % as a result of the deployment of three fundamental features: braking energy recovery, a stop/start function which cuts out the engine during stops, and electrically assisted restart.
Furthermore, these functions can be applied to hybrid CNG buses thanks to an hydraulic system. Irisbus Iveco, European leader in CNG city buses, has developed in partnership with Poclain Hydraulics an experimental CNG articulated hybrid Citelis, complying with the Euro 6 emissions standard, that will be tested at the beginning of the second half-year 2010.
This Award honours the long-lasting commitment of the Iveco Group towards Environment and Sustainable Development.
