Lyon, 17 April 2011
At the end of December 2010, Irisbus Iveco saw the culmination of its two-pronged approach to dealing with environmental issues and appropriate management of risks relating to occupational health and safety.
As a result of this, the Irisbus Iveco sites at Annonay and Rorthais in France, Valle Ufita in Italy, Barcelona in Spain and Vysoké Myto in the Czech Republic have been awarded ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certification.
ISO 14001 (International Standard Organisation) certification is geared towards improving and preventing impacts of business activities on the environment. By implementing an environmental management system, Irisbus Iveco is committed to using a specific management tool, ensuring an operational structure that complies with the standard in every respect.
The basic concept of OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health & Safety Assessment Series) certification, which is very similar in structure to the ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 standards, consists of a frame of reference devised for occupational health and safety management.
Within this framework, the strategic focal points of Irisbus Iveco are as follows:
- Introduction of an occupational health and safety policy at all levels of the organisation;
- Identification of hazards, enabling evaluation and control of the corresponding risks;
- Implementation of a continuous performance improvement policy aimed at risk control;
- Inspections and corrective actions by means of systematic processes, checks and guidelines.
As with all certifications, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 are subject to annual inspection cycles as well as certification reviews (every 3 years), in which the certifying body examines the coherence between the proposed improvement plan and its actual implementation on site.
All other Irisbus Iveco sites are already ISO 9001-certified and incorporate a quality management system that:
- enables the supply of a product that meets the customer’s requirements as well as the legal and regulatory requirements, and
- aims to increase customer satisfaction through the application of continuous improvement processes.
