The Spanish trade magazine "Viajeros" organizes every year the award for the best vehicles of goods and passenger transportation. Concerning passenger vehicles, there are 4 categories: Coaches, Buses, Midibuses and Minibuses.
For the "Coach of the Year" and "Bus of the Year" awards, Irisbus Iveco respectively presented the luxury coach Magelys and the Crossway LE (Low Entry) to the members of the jury, made up of 30 professional representatives.
Held secret until the official day of the prize giving on December 3rd, the results were proclaimed during a ceremony that was held at the Husa Princesa Hotel in Madrid in front of 253 guests including M. Juan Miguel Sánchez, Director of Road Transports at the Public Works and Infrastructures Ministry. Irisbus Iveco was declared winner of the "Coach of the Year 2009" award in front of Temsa HD and Beulas Glory.
For the first time a built-up vehicle (and not a bodied chassis) has been elected in Spain, predicting a beautiful Iberian career for Magelys whose features pleased the members of the jury, among others are its external and internal design, its outstanding comfort, its state-of-the-art functionalities and its numerous safety equipments, beside the consequent investments that Irisbus Iveco made for the development and the manufacturing of this new top of the range vehicle.
The "Bus of the Year 2009" prize was granted to Castrosua for the Tempus hybrid bus fitted with an Iveco engine. This bus won the final against the Crossway LE. The other competitors in this category were Sunsundegui with the Astra Vial model, UNVI with the Cittadino and the Urbis 2.5 and the Volvo B9TL.
